Why? I do love a great steak, but it has to be a good steak. I was lucky to be invited to a preview of The Hide’s new menu.
Where? The new restaurant at the Madinat Jumeriah brings a modern twist to the Dubai culinary scene. Serving a fresh take on American cuisine.
The concept? Inspired by the coolest modern meateries in gastronomic capitals such as New York, Chicago and LA. The Hide is fronted by the renowned British chef Nick Cuadrado, who that night was working the room talking me through the endless dishes arriving at my table.
What’s so good? The Hide boasts an authentic, modern, rustic feel with stone, wood, slate and vintage glass. It was like I was back in some of my favourite restaurants in New York and London. The menu provides classic comfort food steeped in American culture and transformed with unique meatery twists, the first dish Steak Tartare, yes its raw and beefy but don’t forget where you are, it’s a share and serve dish with crisp bread, results delicious. The OMG onion rings don’t disappoint; I could easily have hula hooped with them, served stacked great for sharing.
Highlights: I love a mini anything and head chef Nick had commissioned from the UK the cutest miniature butcher’s knives, I asked why and he said, ‘We could have just got regular steak knives, but I wanted something different, something exclusive to The Hide’.
