Covid_19: My 14-Day Quarantine Menu

After a seven-hour flight from Dubai, I arrived in London. Now, here’s the thing, I’ve been given so much conflicting information about what I should do upon arrival in the UK, I’m really not sure what to do?

My COVID test was negative, I’d filled out the official government documents before my departure, giving the location of my stay in the UK. (I was cat sitting in east London for a close friend), my phone number, email address, even my next of kin.

The idea of a 14-day quarantine period didn’t seem too bad. Now, I’m sure no government officials were ever going to pop over and see how I was keeping or what I’m was eating?

However, I did think, imagine if something did happen to me? And the conversations regarding my health started like, ‘he did self-isolated right?’, or ‘did he not follow the government’s guidelines?’.

‘Food in Dubai is really expensive, so a reduced price cut of meat or some pre-prepared vegetables went straight in my basket’

So to avoid any of this type of conversations, I did self-isolate.
(I did sometimes pop down to the shop, early in the morning, wearing mask of course, more so to find some food bargains).

Food in Dubai is really expensive, so a reduced cut of meat or some pre-prepared vegetables went straight in my basket. Discounted food is one of the many reasons I love a UK supermarket. Even some of the smaller local stores still have huge reductions on food, so as a savvy shopper, I’m in my element.

With a lot of time on my hands, 14 days in fact, I decided to keep a food photo diary of my two weeks in isolation.

So this is what my (heavily discounted), 14-day menu looked like… #QuarantineMenu

DAY ONE: Boneless British lamb joint, 69p mash and butter sautéd mushrooms.
DAY TWO: (Leftover) lamb, mushroom and cream spaghetti.
DAY THREE: £1.60 for 500g minced beef. So beef koftas, I added some heat with sriracha sauce, mint (from the balcony) and cream to cool it down.
DAY FOUR: Breakfast, now the weekend has officially started, bacon and eggs, on a bed of rocket leaves.
A very British lunch, mini pork pies, chutney, salad and slaw. (reduced obviously), £1:30
DAY FIVE: Breakfast, scrambled eggs with some leftover salmon.
Dinner, stir fry chicken and rice made with leftovers, plus a few ingredients from the fridge drawer.
DAY SIX: Marmite marinated pork strips, £2.17, a melody of green vegetables (that’s what it said on the packaging) brushed with Colman’s mustard.
DAY SEVEN: Lemon and parsley smoked salmon fillets with mixed steamed veggies in garlic butter. Under £6 for two. (Although it was just me, this is for display purposes only).
DAY EIGHT: Lunch, carrot topped minced beef pie, with some leftover veg from yesterday.
Dinner, creamy, lardon spaghetti, a pan of deliciousness.
DAY NINE: Fragrant Cambodian (frozen) fish curry, with steamed rice and fresh lime, I could eat this over and over.
DAY TEN: Lunch, an actual salad, super crunchy with peppery radishes, so underrated!
Dinner, leftovers kinda day! Creamy pasta.
DAY ELEVEN: Spinach & chickpea veggie curry. (Mostly ingredients from the cupboard).
DAY TWELVE: (Frozen), sausages, pesto spaghetti & edamame beans.
DAY THIRTEEN: Breakfast, Jamaican hardo bread and ginger marmalade, perfect combo.
Dinner, (instant packet) noodles, mushrooms, mini leeks and £1 bok choy.
DAY FOURTEEN: Lunch, egg mayo, 65p ciabatta, love an egg roll.
The last isolation meal! Mixed grill, halloumi, portobello mushrooms, cocktail tomatoes and mini leeks. I made it! And saved loads?
